It's going to be the biggest and most spectacular floral art festival ever staged in West Wales, inside a fairytale castle and showcasing the talents of all six Pembrokeshire flower arranging societies.

'A Floral Tale of Picton Castle', from October 2 to 5, promises to be a grand day out. There's also 40 acres of woodland and walled garden to explore; an art exhibition by Neville Weston; and arts and crafts stalls.

Proceeds from the festival will go to cancer charities (Breakthrough Breast Cancer Wales and LATCH Welsh Children Cancer Charity).

Determined to raise as much for charity as possible, the flower arranging societies have been busily fund-raising to cover the costs - the flowers alone will be around £5,000.

Members of the Saundersfoot flower arranging society held car boot sales on the harbour front. They are working doubly hard, as they are also doing a local festival at the Methodist Church in December.

Said Rosalind Davies: "We love getting involved in events that are fun to do and support deserving charities. We have five members doing arrangements and we're providing stewards - there aren't many of us, but we're pulling our weight!"

The South Pembrokeshire Floral Art Society, based in Tenby, will be doing 12 arrangements, including in the castle chapel, which is usually not open to the public.

Said chairperson Jan Griffiths: "The scale of the festival at Picton Castle means most of our members are involved. It's going to be spectacular!"

Said festival chairman Cynthia Higgon: "We were very lucky to get such a beautiful venue. The rooms are very different in style, colour and content, so our imaginations could run riot. It's going to look fabulous!"
