Sir, May I congratulate the ladies of Penally, namely Doreen, Anne, Linda, Pauline, Julie, Angela and Pam for the excellent St. David's Day lunch they organised for the more senior in our community. The Village Hall was suitably decorated for the occasion, the tables were beautifully laid and looked very inviting. The cawl, prepared by Ellen Warren, of Penally Abbey Hotel, was excellent and expertly served by the ladies. This was followed by apple pie, fruit or cheese and biscuits. The guests were then entertained by Alwen Hughes, of Knightson Farm, who sang traditional well-loved Welsh songs and hymns, accompanying herself on the guitar. She was also accompanied on the keyboard by Pauline Allen, who also made contributions to the entertainment with several anecdotes and humorous poems. The afternoon ended with tea and Welsh cakes and every guest was presented with a beautifully wrapped bunch of daffodils as a lasting reminder of the afternoon. It was a very enjoyable occasion and the ladies had put a lot of thought and hard work into making it the success it was. On behalf of Penally, thank you all very much and it is hoped that you will be able to repeat it next year. It was truly a fine way to celebrate St. David's Day.
