Last week was a busy one for Pembrokeshire College students. In between lectures and seminars, during lunchtimes and breaks, they raised over £2,000 for the Asian Tsunami Appeal. On Wednesday, college staff and students wore hats and slippers and donations were collected by the childcare students who organised the event. A total of £625 was raised. That figure was boosted even further on Friday by over £1,400, when students washed cars, held a book and bric-a-brac sale in the college atrium, took part in shows, quizzes and competitions, sold copies of a booklet of prose and poetry written by students, and gave massages and beauty treatments in exchange for donations. The students were supported in their efforts by the college branch of Victoria Bookshop, who donated 10 per cent of their takings on the day, and catering company Scolarest, who donated 50 per cent of coffee sales. Local businesses also provided goods for the bric-a-brac sale. "We've been amazed by people's generosity," said Agnes and Ema, two of the students involved in organising the event. "It's been a hectic few days, but we're really pleased to have raised so much for the Tsunami Appeal."
