Saturday, April 12, was a day of celebration at Neyland as 'twinners' from Sanguinet in France paid a four-day visit to the area. It started with the official signing ceremony of the Welsh translation in St. Clements Church Hall, by the Mayor of Neyland, Clr. Maureen Molyneux, and Mr. Bernard Laine, former Mayor of Sanguinet. Mayor of Sanguinet, Mr. Fabiene Laine in his speech "Welcomed the twinning of Neyland and Sanguinet and looks forward to strengthening the two towns ongoing relationships." The ceremony was followed by a parade through the town led by Royal Air Force Cadet Band, 14th Signals Regiment, British Legion, Neyland Army Cadets, Milford Haven Navy Cadets, RNLI and local organisations, with Clr. Dai Boswell, parade marshal. En route was the unveiling of the commemorative twinning plaque, while floral tributes were laid at the Cenotaph, followed by the official salute. Mr. Brian Rothero, wife Kerry and staff at Neyland Athletic Club served up an excellent luncheon, while later in the day there was a delicious pig roast for visitors and townspeople, which they kindly provided, along with entertainment of a lively jazz group. Adding more to the musical enjoyment were Neyland Ladies Choir and Sanguinet Choir. During the afternoon, our visitors were invited to join Neyland Bowls Club to try their skills on the bowling green. It was a wonderful four days visit with a very busy itinerary that included, Sunday service at St. Clements Church, a 'French breakfast' at Zion Chapel, an evening at Neyland Yatch Club, an excursion to St. David's Cathedral and visit to 'The Blue Lagoon', meeting with staff, parents and children at Neyland Community School, a boat trip along the river Cleddau with Captain Mark Andrews and a guided tour of the MHPA control tower. The visit culminated in a reception at Pembrokeshire County Hall, then on to a farewell social evening at the Ferry Inn, Llanstadwell. A gift from Neyland Town Council of a Welsh slate photo frame with a Celtic cross insert, was presented to the Sanguinet visitors. Mayor of Neyland, Clr. Maureen Molyneux, said: "It has been a great pleasure to spend the four days visit with the Mayor of Sanguinet, his deputies, council members and twinning committees and to show them some beautiful areas of Pembrokeshire. It was also very special occasion to have the Sanguinet children and youth here who have enjoyed meeting and joining in activities with our Youth Club and Judo Club. "I have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity that has been shown by St. Clements Church, the members of Neyland Ladies Choir, Zion Chapel, Clr. Jenny Rayner and friends for the fundraising afternoon tea, Mr. Mrs. Brian Rothero of Neyland Athletic Club, and all the volunteer drivers who gave of their time and good humour. A big thank you to sponsor companies such as Neyland Co-op, Dale Sailing, Business Solutions - Llanstadwell and Milford Haven Port Authority. "When I wished 'Bon Voyage' to our friends they were full of praise for their welcome by the townspeople and organisations of Neyland and town councillors who had joined us during their stay. "Visits to Sanguinet are already being planned by Neyland Ladies Choir and Neyland Judo Club and I am confident many more will transpire in the near future. The whole visit has been a marvellous success to build upon"
