Sir,

We are always hearing complaints about the NHS and not too often do we have an opportunity to perhaps improve the balance. However, I recently spent some time in Ward 1 of Withybush Hospital and a shorter time in Teifi Ward, Glangwili.

I was able to observe all aspects of the work of the wards and some of the ancillary services. Many staff are working very long shifts on difficult rotas and, without exception, everyone was unfailingly cheerful, meticulous in their care of diverse patients and a credit to the service.

I am now at home and receiving excellent care from Social Services and the transport system provided by the Welsh Ambulance Service.

The local NHS now has a committed defender.

B. M. Shaw,

Tenby.
