Come and share a Century of Memories! This is the invitation issued by the 'Changing Times in Carew' oral history project.

Next month, Sageston Community School will be the venue for an exhibition highlighting local history and charting the project's progress. It will be open from 1 pm until 8 pm on Friday, February 16, and from 10 am until 4 pm on Saturday, February 17. Everyone is welcome.

Over 50 local people have generously contributed their memories to 'the Talking History project', which is run by Carew Community Association. The recordings cover a wide range of topics - from childhood to sport and working life to parish celebrations.

A CD featuring extracts from the interviews is being produced. It aims to capture a flavour of local life over the past century and highlights the distinct qualities of each of the nine settlements in the parish.

These include Carew, Milton, Sageston, Carew Cheriton, Whitehill, West Williamston, Carew Newton, Pisgah and Redberth. Local residents are being invited to a special launch of the Carew community CD.

A wide range of ages is represented. Sageston Community School pupils interviewed family and friends to learn more about wartime; they also helped to design the project logo. Several of the interviewees were over 90 years of age. Copies of the interviews will be available from the County Archive.

There has been considerable interest in the project, so there will be a short session with the 'Changing Times' team on each of the exhibition days. They will describe their experiences and invite questions and observations. Booking forms for this are available from the project co-ordinator.
