Sir,

I think anyone that lives here or just visiting Pembrokeshire must agree that its probably one of the most beautiful places in the UK.

Yet there's a total disrespect by the local authorities for all road users, especially bikers.

Whether  your just visiting or commuting to and from work, the dangers are increasing and nobody seems to care.

Road kill ie badges, foxes etc., not only on our country lanes, but A roads as well are a very dangers obstacle. They lay there for days until they are obliterated by traffic, even if they are reported nothing is done to remove them.

These are especially dangerous to bike users because they are not seen  being obstructed by other vehicles.

Mud and animal waste are a continuous  major road hazard on all our roads, again especially for bike users.

I'm sure the farmers that created the mess in the first place are very aware of the consequences and dangers they are causing, and they are responsible for cleaning the roads, but if it isn't enforced and obviously it isn't, they will do nothing about cleaning it up.

Have you ever travelled  behind a tractor or other big plant type vehicle with great big chunks of mud flying through the air off its wheels? Yes I'm sure you have and do they care, no they don't.

I heard on the local radio station some weeks ago a big thank you for all the people involved in gritting the roads. Now that really rubbed salt in don't you think, but not into the roads. Even A roads were absolutely dreadful in fact it was a joke. The only grit vehicles that I saw was travelling in the opposite direction at a speed that didn't matter if they were gritting or not because it must have landed in the field over the other side of the road.

Maybe we only have one grit vehicle and the poor guy needed to get around fast to cope with demand.

I apologise to the people who do work hard on the roads, but maybe if the local authorities didn't waste money and put it to better use, we may have enough salt and more resources to sprinkle a bit where its needed. It seems a little funny that we ran out where did it go.

It's a shame that we have a don't care attitude. We should show an example here in Pembrokeshire, but maybe that needs to start at the top.

Oh yes, why do we pay road tax ?

Mark Carrier,

Carew.
