A man described as a self-confessed ‘workaholic’ has been banned from driving for 14 months after being caught over the alcohol limit.

Twenty-five-year-old Ieuan Wyn Griffiths, of Clynderwen, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, after being stopped by police on Freemans Way, Haverfordwest, drink-driving.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that it was around 1.30 am when police officers pulled over Mr. Griffiths due to a rear light not working on his Ford Transit van.

A roadside breath test proved positive and a reading of 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath was recorded at the police station after the defendant’s arrest.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that this was a very unfortunate matter and that the consequences for his client were serious as he was a plant operator who needed to travel to sites across the whole of the Uk for his job.

“Mr. Griffiths is a workaholic who has put all his savings into his business, so he is going to find it hard to keep that going without his driving licence.

“He is not a big drinker and had no idea why he was over the limit as his recollection was that he’d only consumed a pint. He hasn’t touched alcohol since,” explained Mr. Kelleher.

Magistrates disqualified Mr. Griffiths from driving for 14 months and fined him £290 for the offence.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
