A Whitland man who smashed a taxi windscreen before drunkenly assaulting four people has been given a suspeneded prison sentence after appearing in court.
Twenty-three-year-old Geraint Maldwyn Jones, of Llanboidy, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to charges of assaulting four separate people on July 7 of last year; and a charge of criminal damage after causing £85 worth of damage to a car windscreen.
The defendant also admitted a further charge of making off without paying his £5 taxi fee.
Defence solicitor Peter Rhys-Jones told the court that the incident occurred in Haverfordwest, when Mr. Jones and his girlfriend said they would pay a fixed fee to a taxi driver to take them to McDonalds.
The court heard how neither Mr. Jones or his girlfriend had the the money to pay for either the taxi or the food.
“He was extremely drunk and after urinating out of the taxi door, he was told by the driver to get out.
“Mr. Jones then smashed the windscreen of the taxi and wanted to fight the world!” continued Mr. Rhys-Jones.
The court heard how the defendant then went onto assault four different people, including a female and a security guard at the Tesco store.
“It doesn’t look good at all. Mr. Jones had troubles as a youth but is now a hard worker on a farm. He is at a loss to explain his behaviour, but he’d been to a party and had been drinking heavily, and doesn’t remember anything. He is disgusted by his behaviour,” continued Mr. Rhys-Jones.
Magistrates handed Mr. Jones a four month prison setnece suspended for 12 months, with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, and 250 hours of unpaid work to be carried out in the community.
He was ordered to pay a total of £750 to the assault victims, and £85 to cover the cost of the damage to the taxi, along with a further £5 for the unpaid fee.
