CCTV provision for a busy Tenby street has been called for following a number of anti-social incidents that have taken place in the vicinity.
Members of the town council recently met with representatives of Dyfed Powys Police who outlined Crime Commissioner, Dafydd Llywelyn’s reinvestment and improvement plan of the existing CCTV provision across the area, with Tenby identified as one of the town’s that would see it’s system enhanced.
It was explained that CCTV technology in Tenby would be updated, to feature HD cameras and allow for 360 movements, giving better and greater scope, with a new system to be installed around the resort’s harbour area, as well as replacement cameras on Tudor Square, South Parade, St. Georges Street and High Street overlooking the North Beach.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall enquired if locating a camera in Upper Frog Street had been considered, after it was pointed out that all existing and new cameras would be focused on areas inside the town walls and around it, predominantly focusing on prime areas where the need was shown for them, around the night time economy of bars and pubs.
A recent incident along the street which occurred during the afternoon of Saturday, June 30 saw Dyfed-Powys Police appealing for information after a group of men became involved in an altercation and a male victim was left with an injury to his face when he was punched after attempting to intervene.
Police released CCTV images of the men involved that they would like to speak to in connection with the assault.
At last week’s meeting of Tenby Town Council the town clerk informed members that county councillor Michael Williams, who represents Tenby’s North ward had also sounded out the crime commissioner regarding CCTV?provision on Upper Frog Street.
It is anticipated that the new system will be fully operational by March of next year.
