Tenby Fire Station has won a top accolade.

The town’s firefighters won the Station of the Year award at the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Celebrating Success awards ceremony.

The award pays homage to the station that has gone above and beyond in their commitment, engagement and service to their respective community.

Tenby Fire Station was awarded Station of the Year for their central role within the social calendar of the town by staging numerous events such as the resort’s carnival and fire station open day. The station also supports events hosted by the Mencap Tenby Gateway Club, Tenby Round Table Summer Spectaculars, Tenby Rugby Club fireworks display, Saundersfoot New Year’s Day Swim and Ironman Wales event for the Firefighters Charity, as well as opening its doors for visits from local schools and Brownies.

Its open door policy has provided a platform from which to deliver home fire safety, road safety and defibrillator training, whilst promoting partnership work with the Cariad Charity and Blood Bikes Wales.

Sainsbury’s has also adopted the fire station as their charity of the year.

The station has maintained operation of the on-trial Coldcut Cobra unit as a third appliance.

“This award is a great honour,” said watch manager Jeremy Lees. “We are very proud and delighted to have won.”

He added: “We integrate with the community as much as we can and will continue to do so wherever possible.”

Also during the evening, firefighters Jeremy Rossiter and Mark Tucker received 20 and 30 year medals respectively.

Now in its seventh year, the ceremony was held in the prestigious Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, and hosted by BBC News presenter, Sian Lloyd.

It was an evening when the team at Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were recognised and awarded for the dedicated work they deliver on a daily basis to better serve the communities that they protect.

This year, the ceremony was sponsored by Emergency One, Veale Wasborough, Fire Blitz, Gardiner, Mansel Davies & Sons, and Clan Tools.

FOOTNOTE: Last year, three Tenby firefighter heroes were honoured at the glitzy ceremony. Nicky Rees won the sports and social club award for his triathlon achievements, while Billy Connor and Gary Slack were honoured for their bravery saving the lives of two children in difficulty off Castle Beach in August 2016.
