A Pembroke Dock woman has been fined in court after admitting stealing items from a retail store in the town.

Thirty-four-year-old Rachel Hughes, of Wavell Crescent, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, to plead guilty to stealing a bracelet and hair clip, from Peacocks in Pembroke Dock.

Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that the incident occurred on April 20, when the defendant was spotted taking the items from the store.

Ms Hughes who had one previous conviction for theft previously the court heard, made full admissions when interviewed by police.

Defence solicitor David Williams told the court that Ms Hughes had become depressed recently as a consequence of her father passing away in February and had been prescribed Diazepam by her GP.

“She said that it had a very strange effect on her behaviour and made her feel that she couldn’t care less about her actions,” Mr. Williams told the court.

Magistrates fined the defendant £40 for the offence and ordered her to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £40 victim surcharge.

She was also ordered to pay £4.08 compensation to Peacocks for the stolen goods.
