Two single mums who stole items from a store in Pembroke Dock by concealing them in a baby’s pushchair have appeared in court.
Thirty-year-old Gemma Edwards of Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, and twenty-year-old Nicole Guy, of Angle, were jointly charged when they appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Miss Edwards and Miss Guy both admitted a charge of jointly stealing Lucozade, chocolate and candles to the value of £15 from the Londis store on Pembroke Dock’s Dimond Streets, on May 13.
Miss Guy also pleaded guilty to three other charges of theft from the same store over three days from May 18 to 24, where she took items such as groceries and cans of Red Bull without paying.
Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that on the first occasion both defendants entered the store with the pushchair and concealed the items under the baby’s seat.
“On the other occasions Miss Guy did exactly the same thing. Miss Edwards has two previous convictions for shoplifting on record, but Miss Guy is of clean character,” he said.
Defence solicitor Mark Layton told the court that both were single parents and had difficulties managing their finances at the time.
“They both regret their appearance before the court today,” he said.
Magistrates fined Miss Edwards £40 for the offence and ordered her to pay compensation of £7.50. She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
Miss Guy was also fined £40 and ordered to pay compensation of £22.67. Magistrates also informed her that she too would have to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
