Dyfed-Powys Police’s Financial Crime Team visited Pembrokeshire County Show to give warning on the threat of fraud.

The police specialists visited businesses at the show and spoke to show visitors to alert them to financial scams currently circulating in the area and to offer advice on how to make sure their personal information and money remains secure.

A high percentage of the businesses signed up to receive information from the team in the future.

Financial Crime Team co-ordinator, Paul Callard, said: “We visited Pembrokeshire County Show to see if there was an appetite to receive financial crime information and advice and we found that there certainly is.

“We are receiving a number of reports of scams every week. People can be targeted in a variety of ways - phone, text message, letter, social media - and the scams are very often run from abroad.

“What we are doing in Dyfed-Powys to tackle the problem and prevent our residents and businesses from becoming a victim, is making sure they’re aware of the threat of scams, know how to keep themselves safe and what action to take if they are approached by fraudsters.

“We will be continuing this work at future public events and look forward to signing up more people for news updates so we can seek to prevent people being scammed.”

The Financial Crime Team also attended the Royal Welsh Show to raise awareness of the issue.
