Dyfed-Powys Police are warning people to be on their guard against scam callers.

A spokeswoman for the police said: “We have received several calls reporting scam calls and messages left with elderly and vulnerable people.

“Five calls were logged in the Aberystwyth area between 2 and 5.30 pm on Monday, but people outside this area might also be targeted.

“Callers are purporting to be from HMRC, and threatening high legal fees if calls are not returned to a number beginning with 28.

“We would urge people not to reply to these messages, or to hang up immediately if you are on the line.

“Reports of any further calls can be made to Action Fraud online at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040, or by calling Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.

“We would encourgae people to pass this message on to any elderly or vulnerable friends or relatives who they fear might fall victim to scam callers.”
