The RNLI have issued a fresh warning about the dangers of rip currents, following an incident in Pembrokeshire.
On Friday, June 27 RNLI lifeguards on duty at Newgale and Whitesands beaches were called upon to rescue five people and assist a further seven from rip currents, all of which were executed outside of the flagged zones set up.
“The combination of bigger surf and wind increases the likelihood and strength of rip currents,” said an RNLI spokesperson.
“We position our flags in the safest areas of the beach, and where possible use red flags or wind breaks to mark rip currents. A reminder to swim and bodyboard between the red and yellow flags or surf, kayak and paddleboard between the black and white flags.”
