Police attended Bolton Hill Quarry in Johnston on Sunday evening (June 11) following a report that a youth had fallen from a footpath in the quarry. The youth was taken to hospital for treatment.

Chief Inspector Mark McSweeney said: “I would like to take this opportunity to remind people of the dangers and risks of being in a quarry. Quarries are dangerous places, filled with visible and hidden dangers and they are often in hard to reach areas. Hazards include falling off ledges and being struck by rockfall.

“Officers will be visiting local schools to remind children of the dangers of playing near a quarry. I hope that parents, teachers and anyone working with young people can help us get the critical safety message across: please stay safe and stay out of quarries unless you are on a supervised visit.”
