A Pembroke Dock man found in possession of a quantity of cannabis has been fined in court.

Twenty-year-old Daniel Watts, of Old Coronation School, Meyrick Street, admitted the charge when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that the defendant was arrested by police officers on an unrelated matter, when they smelt cannabis in the air.

“Mr. Watts admitted to officers that he’d smoked it a short time before they arrived, and they seized a grinder from him,” she explained.

Defence solicitor Kate Williams told the court that there was a very small trace of cannabis contained in the grinder.

“My client is currently subject to a community order. He is a young man identified as having mental health issues and has an appointment with the Dyfed Drug and Alcohol Service,” she explained.

Magistrates elected to let the community order continue and fined Mr. Watts £40 for the offence and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £30.

A destruction order was also passed for the grinder.
