A Pembroke Dock man admitted two charges of cannabis possession when he appeared in court this week.
Twenty-three-year-old Kyran John Williams, of Meyrick Street, pleaded guilty to possessing four grams of herbal cannabis on December 30; and 3.9 grams of the drug on January 5, when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that police attended the defendant’s address on the first occasion for an unrelated matter and became aware of the smell of cannabis, and on the second occasion it was a very similar matter.
“Mr. Williams told officers that the cannabis was for his own personal use,” explained Ms Vaughan, adding that the defendant had received a caution in 2014 for the production of cannabis.
Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that his client used the drug for ‘recreational purposes’.
“He is not a drinker and keeps himself to himself. He had obtained the cannabis for the New Year, and when that was confiscated, he raised the money to purchase some more, but walked out of his house and straight into a policeman!” he explained.
Magistrates fined Mr. Williams a total of £160 and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge. A destruction order for the drugs was also passed.
