A man from the Midlands who drunkenly kicked a succession of parked cars in Pembroke has been ordered to pay fines and compensation totalling £1,000 after pleading guilty in court.

Thirty-one-year-old Jason Alexander Brown, of Netherton, Dudley, pleaded guilty to three counts of causing criminal damage to vehicles on February 16, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The defendant also admitted a charge of causing danger to road users, by placing slats of wood and barriers on Pembroke’s Main Street.

Prosecutor Mr. Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told magistrates that the incident took place at around 11 pm.

“I believe Mr. Brown was drunk, and one of the stupid things he did was place slats of wood with nails on them and barriers from roadworks onto the road, causing motorists to have to drive around them.

“As he walked back to his digs, he started kicking wing mirrors on cars,” he added.

Defence solicitor Mr. Mark Layton told the court that his client’s actions were ‘somewhat out of character’.

“Mr. Brown is a shop fitter and was down in the area and out with work colleagues.

“He’d drunk far too much and can’t remember much of what happened, but fully accepts responsibility. He has even gone the extra mile to email a letter of apology for the police to pass onto the victims,” he explained.

Chair of the magistrates bench, Mr. David Simpson told Mr. Brown that Pembrokeshire was a lovely place to come, that welcomes visitors, but not those that drink too much and kick wing mirrors off cars.

Mr. Brown responded by telling magistrates that he hadn’t ‘touched a drop’ since.

Magistrates ordered Mr. Brown to pay compensation totalling £968.80 to the victims, and fined him £400 for the offence.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £40 victim surcharge.
