Tenby’s RNLI crew were tasked on the night Ironman Wales taking place in the town, to launch after a report that two people had been cut off by the tide.

The all-weather lifeboat was launched Sunday night at 9 pm after a report the two people were cut off by the tide on the west end of Manorbier.

After the crew had negotiated their way past huge crowds that were supporting the ongoing Ironman Wales sporting event, the boat was soon on the water and headed toward Manorbier, six miles west of Tenby.

Whilst HM Coastguard Tenby and Dyfed-Powys Police searched the shoreline, the lifeboat searched from the sea, using its powerful searchlights and parachute flares to illuminate the area.

After a thorough search, with nothing found and nobody reported missing, the incident was classified as a false alarm with good intent and the lifeboat was stood down to return to station, arriving at 9.40 pm.
