A Monkton man caught driving with a quantity of drugs in his system has been handed a lengthy motoring ban.

Fifty-three-year-old Carl Ronald Green, of Montgomery Close, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to two separate charges of driving a Vauxhall Astra on the A478 road Clunderwen with a quantity of cannabis and cocaine in his blood.

Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that police officers stopped Mr. Green in his vehicle on January 21 and he was arrested in respect of a separate matter.

A drugs test was taken which proved positive and he was also arrested on suspicion of drug-driving magistrates heard.

Mr. Hussain told the court that the defendant had many previous convictions to his name, but the most recent one dated back to 2007.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that Mr. Green had been using dugs recreationally over the weekend.

“He wouldn’t have necessarily been under the influence at the time, but we all know that cannabis and cocaine stay in the system for some time. There was no suggestion of bad driving here,” he said.

Magistrates disqualified Mr. Green from driving for a total of 15 months and fined him £120 for the offence.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
