A Milford man who drunkenly damaged three vehicles following a fall out with his girlfriend has been given a 12 month community order.
Nineteen-year-old Justin Cadwell, of Richard John Road, pleaded guilty to damaging a Ford Fiesta belonging to McRory Rogers; and two taxis belonging to Ian Smith, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told magistrates that on December 12, Mr. Cadwell dented the rear tailgate of one taxi parked on Charles Street in Milford Haven, and dented the rear side door of another, causing a combined figure of £920.59 worth of damage to the vehicles. He also dented the bonnet and shattered the windscreen of Mr. Rogers’ car causing £65 worth of damage.
“The driver of an eight-seater minibus taxi parked outside the Astoria nightclub saw Mr. Cadwell come straight towards his colleague’s vehicle and kick the bonnet before immediately kicking out at his taxi too,” explained Ms Morgan.
“The taxi driver pointed out to police officers the direction the man went. He was seen from CCTV footage walking down the street and running towards the parked Fiesta before treading up the vehicle onto it’s bonnet and windscreen.
“Mr. Cadwell is also seen headbutting a telephone box twice and running towards a bus stop where he picks up a rubbish bin before taking it apart and leaving it on the floor,” she continued.
Defence solicitor Matthew Greenish told the court that his client had consumed some alcohol that night before arguing with his girlfriend.
“He fully accepts responsibility for the damage to the vehicles. Things got out of hand in an argument with his girlfriend and he’s taken his frustration out on the vehicles,” said Mr. Greenish.
Magistrates gave Mr. Cadwell a 12 month community order with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, to include a ‘thinking skills’ programme, and 60 hours of unpaid community work.
He was ordered to pay £920.59 in compensation to the taxi firm owner, £65 to Mr. Rogers, a fine of £65, along with a £60 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.
