Angle RNLI along with fellow emergency services responded to a Mayday call late on Monday night, with one person spotted struggling in the water.
At 11:02pm on Monday (July 14) Angle RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat received an immediate launch request from the coastguard to a person in the water at Gelliswick.
Police officers were on scene and had lost sight of the person in the darkness but could hear them shouting for help in the distance.
With the severity of the situation a Mayday Relay was broadcast by the coastguard and a port authority pilot vessel and Svitzer tug responded to assist.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Dale and Broad Haven and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R187 were also tasked to proceed.
The lifeboat was on scene moments after launching and located the casualty struggling to keep afloat. The casualty was immediately secured and stabilised with a boat hook before being recovered onto the lifeboat.
After assessment the casualty was found to be in poor health with laboured breathing so the crew made best speed back to the jetty where an ambulance had been requested to attend.
Once back alongside the crew were met by police officers and members of the coastguard before paramedics arrived.
With ambulance now on scene, the casualty was assessed onboard the lifeboat before being handed over into the care of paramedics.
With no further assistance required the crew were stood down with thanks and the lifeboat was readied for further service by 12:30am.
