A Kilgetty man found with a quantity of cannabis at his home has been fined in court.

Twenty-one-year-old Dean Rees, of Kingsmoor Road, pleaded guilty to possessing 13.52 grams of herbal cannabis when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.

He also admitted supplying a quantity of cannabis to persons in Tenby at the same hearing.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that on June 7, the letting agency that manages the property that Mr. Rees lives at were carrying out a routine inspection when a number of drugs were found on the table.

“Mr. Rees was arrested and had a his phone and computer seized to see if there was any evidence that he had been dealing, but there was none.

“However, he admitted to police officers that over the past year he had been buying more cannabis than he needed and was giving it to friends, but for no financial gain,” explained Mr. Pritchard-Jones.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that Mr. Rees, who worked as a barman, was completely ‘open and frank’ with the police and told them that he shared the cannabis on a friendly basis.

“He uses it recreationally as it helps him relax and go to sleep,” he said.

Magistrates fined Mr. Rees a total of £160 for both offences and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge. A destruction order for the drugs was also passed.
