A teenage scrap metal dealer from Pembroke has been given a hefty fine in court after admitting not displaying a copy of his licence.
Nineteen-year-old Billy James John Roberts, of Powell Close, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with failing to display a copy of his scrap metal dealers collector’s licence on his vehicle; and failing to record information required of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that on April 13, the Pembrokeshire Neighbourhood Policing Team were working alongside the British Transport Police carrying out ‘Operation Tornado’ - a scheme designed to crack down on metal theft.
“At around 11.40 am, officers operating on Waterloo Road, in Pembroke Dock, saw Mr. Roberts’s vehicle enter full of scrap metal, and when they asked him for licensing details, he was found not to be complying with two sections of the act,” explained Ms Morgan.
Magistrates fined Mr. Roberts a total of £535 for the two charges, and ordered him to pay court costs totalling £115.
