Recently, Tenby Lifeboat crew were presented with a new piece of equipment for the inshore lifeboat by students from Greenhill School. Over 70 students from Greenhill took part in a sponsored walk of just over 13 miles from Manorbier to Tenby in June, to raise over £1500 for the camera. The FLIR (forward-looking infrared) camera, is a handheld device that detects infrared energy (heat) and converts it into an electronic signal, which is then processed to produce a thermal image that the user can see in the viewfinder of the camera.

Ben James, Tenby Lifeboat Crewmember and also IT Network Manager at Greenhill said: “We’re extremely grateful to all the students that took part in the sponsored walk and raised money. This potentially lifesaving camera will enable the crew of the inshore lifeboat to spot people stuck on cliffs or in the water at night – even in total darkness. It’s a great piece of kit and I’m sure it will have plenty of use over the coming years.”

Greenhill School would like the thank Mike Edwards of Edwards Coaches for his help in getting the students to Manorbier to start their walk.
