A Pembroke man caught in possession of a cannabis cigarette was fined this week.

Twenty-year-old Aaron David Jones, of High Street, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to possessing a cigarette containing herbal cannabis.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told magistrates that on March 17, at 12.40 am, police officers on routine patrol in the Dimond Street area of Pembroke Dock were responding to a message to keep a lookout for two males.

“The defendant wasn’t one of the persons officers wished to speak to, but when they approached him, they could smell cannabis, and he handed over a cigarette containing the drug and a blue grinder,” he explained.

“He fully admitted the matter in interview at the police station, and said that he’d paid £20 for the cannabis and had already smoked the rest of it,” added Mr. Pritchard-Jones.

“Mr. Jones tells me that he has no drug problem, and he was smoking it for recreational use only,” the defendant’s solicitor, Mr. Mark Layton, told the court.

Magistrates fined Mr. Jones £75 for the offence and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
