A Milford man found drunk and disorderly in a hedge on Bonfire Night spent some time ‘banged up’ in a cell after being arrested, a court heard this week.
Thirty-year-old Alun John Harries, of Robertson West, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place, namely Abereiddy Bay, in Fishguard.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that a female police officer on duty on November 5 responded to a call of reports of a male being found on the side of a road heavily intoxicated at around lunchtime.
“Mr. Harries was laying under a towel in a hedge passed out. When he opened his eyes he used foul and abusive language towards the officer, and was advised about his language.
“Members of the public were gathered around to keep an eye on the defendant. His speech was slurred and he was clearly intoxicated.
“The bad language and abuse carried on and Mr. Harries was arrested for being drunk and disorderly, and spent some time in the police cell, before being charged and released at 8 pm that evening,” added Ms Morgan.
Defending himself, Mr. Harries said he was ‘embarrassed’ about his behaviour and apologised to the court and police, stating that he’d been to a party the previous night and gone a bit ‘overboard’ with his drinking, and didn’t really remember what happened.
Magistrates fined Mr. Harries £400 for the offence and told him that it had turned out to be an expensive night for him.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £40 victim surcharge.
