A Pembroke Dock motorist who nipped out to grab something to eat during the early hours has been handed a driving ban after admitting getting behind the wheel over the alcohol limit.

Twenty-two-year-old Sarah Louise Lawrence, of Kent Row, Llanion Park, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday (March 3), to plead guilty to a charge of driving a Citroen C4 on the A477 Jordanston, after exceeding the prescribed limit.

Prosecutor Dennis Davies told the court that police had cause to to stop Ms Lawrence’s vehicle at 12.50 am on February 14, and after smelling alcohol on the driver, they administered a roadside test which proved positive.

The defendant gave a reading of 75 microgrammes of alcohol in a 100 millilitres of breath at the police station.

Defence solicitor John Allchurch told the court that Ms Lawrence who worked as a support worker had not been out that night socialising, but had consumed some alcohol at home, before deciding to go out to get something to eat.

“She is a young woman who works hard and has no previous convictions. She is ashamed to be in front of the court today,” he said.

Magistrates handed the defendant a 20 month driving disqualification and fined her £250.

She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £32 victim surcharge.
