A cleaner from Milford has been banned from driving for two years after being stopped by police for being nearly three times over the limit.

Forty-six-year-old Mariola Pokusa, of Birch Mead, pleaded guilty to driving her Mitsubishi Colt after exceeding the prescribed limit of alcohol, when she appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones told the court that the police officers on routine patrol pulled the defendant over at 4.50 am on June 3, on Marble Hall Road, in Milford Haven, as they were concerned by the manner of her driving.

“Miss Pokusa’s vehicle crossed the central white line of the road on a number of occasions, and she was also weaving in and out of her own lane.

“She gave a reading of 97 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath at the police station, which is getting up to nearly three times the limit,” he explained.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that his client, who worked as a cleaner, was driving home from a friend’s.

“Presumably she was not wanting to walk home by herself at that time, and now has to suffer the consequences of making an extremely bad decision to drive,” he said.

Magistrates disqualified Miss Pokusa from driving for two years and gave her a 12-month community order, with 60 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and an £85 victim surcharge.
