A ‘career shoplifter’ from Pembroke Dock is behind bars again after admitting two counts of theft in court.

Forty-year-old Luke Brummit, of Queen Street, in custody, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of stealing various items to the value of £54 from the B and M store in Pembroke Dock on January 6; and a charge of stealing £40 worth of goods from the Aldi store on January 10.

He also admitted a charge of possessing 0.2 grams of cannabis.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that both offences of theft were captured on CCTV and police recognised the defendant from the footage and called at his home on January 15, where they also discovered the cannabis.

“As you can see from his record, Mr. Brummit is a career shoplifter,” Mr. Pritchard-Jones told magistrates.

Defence solicitor Mark Layton told the court that these were two low value shoplifting matters, but that his client would have to be concerned that the matter crosses the custody threshold, given his record.

The probation officer told magistrates that Mr. Brummit was currently on licence after being released from prison in November.

Mr. Brummitt was most recently handed a 20-week custodial sentence back in June after admitting stealing a teacher’s handbag from his child’s school classroom.

At the hearing on Tuesday, magistrates gave Mr. Brummitt a term of 20 weeks imprisonment and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £115 and compensation to the stores he stole from.
