Four calls within 48 hours has seen Tenby’s RNLI crew experience a busy time over the weekend.
The all-weather lifeboat was launched at 1.35 pm on Sunday (September 10), after the coastguard received a call stating that people were possibly in difficulty in a dinghy at Church Rock, off Broadhaven.
The volunteer crew quickly made the 10 mile trip west and were on scene 25 minutes later. They soon spotted two people on Church Rock, so the Y Boat was launched with two crew aboard to go in and speak to them.
The people confirmed that they were planning on climbing the rock and had all the necessary safety equipment and the means to return to shore.
Confident that the climbers were safe, the lifeboat returned to station, arriving at 2.45 pm.
The previous day, inshore lifeboat the Kathleen Ann was launched at 7.45 pm (Saturday, September 9), after the coastguard received a report that a paddleboarder was possibly in difficulty off the back of the pier at Saundersfoot.
The volunteer crew made best speed towards Saundersfoot, but as they were approaching, the paddleboarder was getting ashore.
The lifeboat was stood down to return to station, arriving at 8.10 pm.
Earlier in the day, on what was a busy Saturday by the coast, with the hot weather bringing many people to the beach, the all-weather lifeboat was launched at 2.35 pm, after a 27ft motorboat report engine trouble one mile east of Barafundle.
The volunteer crew quickly made the 8 mile trip west and were on scene 20 minutes later, where the single occupant of the casualty vessel that was on passage from Milford to Cornwall, requested a tow into Tenby.
Once back at Tenby, the casualty vessel was put onto a mooring, before the lifeboat was rehoused at 4.15 pm.
On the Friday night, both Tenby lifeboats were requested to launch at 7.50 pm, after the Fire Service received a call from someone on the mainland reporting a possible fire on Caldey Island.
The boats were on the water shortly after 8pm, with two crews from Tenby Fire and Rescue Service aboard the Victor Freeman.
As there were no reports of a fire from islanders, the lifeboat performed a search around the entire island, before the inshore lifeboat dropped members of fire crew ashore to search inland, while the lifeboat continued to search from the sea.
With nothing found and the fire crew satisfied that the call was a false alarm, the crew were collected and the lifeboats returned to station, arriving at 9.35 pm.
