Tenby Coastguard Team experienced a busy Bank Holiday weekend with five call outs.
The team were paged to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service at Tenby’s South Beach on Saturday, shortly after 6.30 pm, after there was a report of an adult male who had received a number of injuries. After assessment by paramedics, the casualty was conveyed to hospital.
Police were also in attendance.
The first shout on Sunday was received at 4.29 pm to a report of an adult female who had suffered a minor traumatic injury on Tenby’s North Beach.
On arrival, the casualty was in the care of RNLI lifeguards.
The volunteer Coastguard Rescue officers assessed the casualty and assisted the paramedics from the Wales Ambulance Service with evacuating the casualty to the land ambulance at Castle Square.
The casualty was conveyed to Withybush Hospital for treatment.
Whilst involved with this incident, the team received another call shortly after 5 pm which saw team members being dispatched to Castle Beach to assist an injured adult male, again in the care of RNLI lifeguards.
This gentleman was taken via stretcher to an awaiting vehicle where he, too, was taken to Withybush.
Later that evening, shortly after 9 pm, the team received its third call to a report of persons possibly cut-off by the tide in the area of Morfa Bychan Pendine.
Tenby’s lifeboat had launched and was making way to the scene. Information from the lifeboat was that the persons were actually fishermen.
All units were stood down and returned to their stations.
The fourth call came as the team were standing down from this call at 10.13 pm, when they were tasked to assist the Ambulance Service at Saundersfoot harbour, following a report of an adult female with an ankle injury.
The team assisted the paramedic with casualty care until the ambulance arrived and conveyed the patient to Withybush.
Bank Holiday Monday was not so busy, with just the one call, when the team were tasked at 4.35 pm following a request from the ambulance service after a report of an injured walker somewhere behind Tenby Golf Club.
Further information indicated this casualty was on Giltar headland. The St. Govan team were also tasked to assist at this incident. The casualty was located overlooking Caldey Island.
Paramedics from Tenby treated the casualty and due to the location of the person and difficulty in extraction, the Ambulance Coastguard helicopter rescue 187 was tasked to the incident to take the injured party to Withybush.
