A Milford motorist has been banned from getting behind the wheel of his car after admitting a drink-driving charge in court.
Thirty-six-year-old Daniel Sheil, of Meyler Crescent, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of driving his Vauxhall Corsa on St. David’s Road in Milford Haven, after consuming so much alcohol that he exceeded the prescribed limit.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that police officers on routine patrol shortly after 7.30 am on December 23, spotted Mr. Sheil driving his vehicle ‘somewhat erratically’ and too fast for the road conditions that morning.
“He was pulled over and officers could smell alcohol and Mr. Sheil’s speech was slurred,” he explained.
Mr. Sheil gave a reading of 62 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, at the station after his arrest, the court heard.
Defence solicitor Katy Hanson told the court that the defendant had been out the previous evening and stayed with a friend and believed that he was ok to drive that morning.
Magistrates fined Mr. Sheil £120 for the offence and disqualified him from driving for 17 months. He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
