A Kilgetty motorist whose vehicle was spotted travelling erratically on a public road has appeared in court charged with drug-driving.
Twenty-five-year-old Craig Dewi Emrys Adams, of Millfieds Close, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving his Peugeot car on the A478 Glandy Cross with a proportion of cannabis in his system, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He also admitted a charge of being in possession of a ‘spliff’ containing 0.8 grammes of cannabis.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones told the court that the incident occurred on January 29, when shortly before 4 pm, police were called by a member of the public to alert them to a vehicle being driven erratically.
Officers caught up with the car and could see it was swerving all over the road, going from the near side to the off side, before they pulled the driver over.
They stated that there was a strong smell of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle and initially the driver said no when asked if he had any cannabis in his possession, but then immediately produced a ‘spliff’, the court heard.
Defence solicitor Mark Layton told the court that Mr. Adams, who worked in the hospitality trade, was of clean character and had no previous convictions.
“It was a very small quantity of cannabis. He will lose his licence but that will not prevent him from working he says.”
As well as disqualifying him from driving for 12 months, magistrates fined Mr. Adams £184 for the drug-driving offence and £123 for cannabis possession.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
