Police in Tenby say they are continuing to tackle a spate of antisocial behaviour and associated criminal offences within the town, with arrests made and curfews imposed.

Incidents of anti-social behaviour have been rising in the resort of late, most recently the discovery of further offensive graffiti on the sea defence walls of the North Beach, and earlier this month vandalism to some of the town’s High Street festive decorations around St Mary’s Church, along with a bus shelter near to the multi-storey car park being smashed.

Subsequently, one of Tenby’s county councillors has held talks with the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed-Powys, calling for more of a police presence across the seaside town and its surrounding locality.

County Councillor for the town’s north ward Cllr Michael Williams, along with Town Councillor Paul Rapi and and Cllr Rhys Jordan from neighbouring wards St Mary Out Liberty [New Hedges] and St Florence met with Police Commissioner Mr Dafydd Llywellyn in Tenby on Tuesday to outline their concerns about the level of visible policing in Tenby and anti-social behaviour in the immediate surrounding area.

“Suggestions were made to Mr Llywellyn of ways to improve liaison between elected members and senior Police Officers in the area; whilst attention was drawn to areas of Tenby which it was felt merited specific attention, in particular during summer months, and the need to see an improvement in Police visibility at critical times and in specific areas,” said Cllr Williams following the meeting.

“Mr Llywellyn pointed out the very considerably increased number of CCTV cameras in the town and the increased number of officers in Dyfed Powys, after many years of reductions.

“It is hoped that a long-term schedule of meetings can be arranged for the future - an example of constructively working together,” added Cllr Williams.

Police in Tenby stated this week that they are continuing to tackle a spate of antisocial behaviour and associated criminal offences within the town centre area.

“Two youths have been interviewed under caution and subsequently reported to the Youth Offending Team for their part in the criminal offences committed,” said a police spokesperson.

“A further arrest was made on December 17, a curfew imposed, and another referral to the Youth Offending Team has been made.

“We will continue to tackle this issue robustly until the antisocial behaviour is rooted out.

“Further arrests and subsequent appropriate action will likely follow until the matters are resolved.

“Parents – please ensure you are aware of where your children are and what they are up to in order to prevent them from becoming embroiled in such matters,” they added.
