Angle RNLI’s lifeboat crew had two shouts this morning (August 18) in response to a yacht declaring mayday, followed by a possible swimmer in difficulty.

At 5.51am this morning the crew received an immediate launch following a mayday call from a yacht with engine failure and electrical issues drifting ashore near Skomer Island.

The lifeboat launched and began making best speed to the area, arriving on scene 25 minutes later.

Once on scene, the crew found that the yachts skipper had now downgraded his call to from a Mayday a PanPan, and that another yacht was standing by awaiting our arrival.

After an assessment of the situation, and with the yacht drifting ashore without power the decision was made to pass a tow.

With a tow rigged, the crew proceeded towards Milford Marina and had the vessel safely alongside within the marina by 9.10am.

With no further assistance required, the crew returned to station and the lifeboat was readied for further service by 9.40am.

Less than an hour later at 10.34am the crew were paged again, this time in response to a swimmer potentially in difficulty off Milford Beach. However, as the lifeboat had just departed the jetty the crew were stood down as the swimmer had self recovered and was with members of Dale Coastguard Rescue Team.

The lifeboat was back alongside and ready for service once again by 11am. Milford Haven Harbour Patrol, a Port Authority Pilot Vessel and Milford Haven VTS also assisted.
