Angle RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat was alerted last Thursday night (April 6), after an undesignated DSC (digital selective calling) distress signal was received from a vessel within the Milford Haven Waterway.
The signal was received at 8.36 pm, when the Tamar class lifeboat Mark Mason was returning from an exercise. The lifeboat proceeded at best speed to the position, which was off the Valero oil refinery berth 7 jetty.
The lifeboat manoeuvred alongside the tanker there and, after discussions with the crew, it was confirmed that the distress signal was sent in error.
With no assistance required, the lifeboat was released and returned to her station, where she was rehoused at 9.10 pm.
