Alfie the Border Collie is back in the care of his grateful owners this evening after being rescued by Angle RNLI from a coastal clifftop ordeal

Angle RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat launched on service at 12.13pm this afternoon (Friday, September 22) following 999 calls to the Coastguard reporting a dog over the cliff between West Angle and Thorn Island.

With the dog inaccessible from the top and concern the owners may attempt to recover the dog themselves, the crew were tasked to assist.

The lifeboat made best speed to West Angle and once through Thorn Sound began a search of the area.

Shortly after, the dog was located thanks to multiple members of the public on the cliff top waving.

The Y boat was swiftly deployed and made its way into the area to assess the situation and best method of extraction.

The dog, Alfie the Border Collie was found around 8ft up a steep ledge, but otherwise unharmed.

With swell conditions and a stiff onshore breeze making things difficult, the Y boat crew assessed the conditions and managed to land a crew member ashore during a lull of swell.

Alfie was more than obliging in being rescued and was soon in the arms of the crew member and making his way down to the waters edge.

The Y boat was once again manoeuvred into the rocks and both were taken onboard.

The Y boat crew then headed round to West Angle beach where the owners of the dog and members of St Govan’s Coastguard Rescue Team would rendezvous with the crew.

Soon after, Alfie was back in the care of his grateful owners!
