A man from Lamphey has been fined in court after admitting driving a vehicle without a licence.

Twenty-six-year-old Lewis Liam Haines pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.

The defendant also admitted driving the vehicle without third party insurance; and taking the vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that a two-vehicle road traffic collision occurred at 1.30 pm on January 4, on a bend near Ryelands Lane in Kilgetty.

“Mr. Haines was driving slowly and carefully, but another motorist coming the other way skidded and had a head-on collision with him. The accident was not his fault,” he explained.

Police arrived on the scene and it transpired that the vehicle that Mr. Haines was driving belonged to his girlfriend, and he had no licence and no insurance.

“He told police that he had been at home and his girlfriend was in work, but they had bought a house together and he took her car as he wanted to go there to check on something,” continued Mr. Pritchard-Jones.

Magistrates fined Mr. Haines a total of £240 for all three offences and endorsed his licence with six penalty points.
