Local schools and organisations have shown their generosity this week by packing shoe boxes with gifts as part of the Operation Christmas Child appeal. Tenby Inner Wheel have collected 732 boxes on behalf of the appeal's organisers, the Samaritan's Purse, who collected the gifts on Monday. Since 1990, the project has brought the joy of Christmas to more than 47 million boys and girls throughout the poorest parts of the world. Betty Charnock, of Tenby Inner Wheel, who has helped collect and held the shoe boxes at her farm in Pentlepoir annually for the past seven years is grateful for the generosity local people and organisations have shown again this year. "We're very grateful to all those who have contributed to the appeal; once again the locals have shown tremendous support for the cause," said Betty. "With help from some fellow members of Tenby Inner Wheel, we managed to fill the van on Monday, with Romania and India named as possible destinations for the gifts," she added. She thanked friends, neighbours and colleagues for the shoe boxes they have donated, along with Tenby Infants, Junior, Greenhill, Manorbier, St. Teilos and Netherwood Schools; Withybush and Glangwili Hospitals; Tenby Golf Club; Tenby Ladies Circle; St. Issell's Church; Soroptimists; Tenby Observer; Tenby Scout and Guides; St. Johns Sunday School; Tangent; Crusaders, and anyone else who has contributed.
