A Martletwy man and his wife travelled approximately 300 miles - to and from Nuneaton - to deliver £11.

The £11 was donated by parents of Mr. Oswald Cherry, who had a massage centre in Martletwy, when they read of the plight of two-year-old Tina Jacob from Nuneaton.

Tina had a deformed heart and a fund was started to enable her to go to South Africa, if Dr. Christian Barnard agreed to operate on her. Mr. and Mrs. Cherry travelled to Nuneaton to deliver the £11 to the treasurer of the fund.
