Sir,
I refer to your report in last week's edition about the meeting convened on November 1 by Pembrokeshire County Council to discuss the Experimental Pedestrianisation Scheme with representatives of various organisations in the town.
Both I and Mike Thorne were present at the meeting, representing Tenby 2020. As you reported, Mike did say that residents "should temper their rights in such a special environment." However, that was said in the context of a number of our other comments on the experiment, including the view that some residents had experienced problems with the scheme, and that we would like to review of how those problems were addressed.
We suggested that there should be a permit scheme to allow residents to park, exclusively, on the top floor of the multi-storey, and that there should be a more helpful Help Line to allow vehicular access in exceptional circumstances.
Tenby 2020's overall position on the experiment was to welcome it and hope that it is repeated. We are, therefore, pleased that that also appears to be the view of the majority of residents and businesses. However, we would not support a simple majority overview and trust that the county council will review the needs of the minorities on this issue, including the Walled Town residents.
Chris Osborne,
Chair,
Tenby 2020.
