A 13-mile walking fundraiser to raise suicide awareness will see those taking part arrive in Saundersfoot during the early hours of the morning.

The event named The Rocky Road and organised by the West Wales branch of LiSS (Living in Suicide Shadow) will start on Saturday (July 3) at 10.30 pm and is due to finish on Saundersfoot harbour the following morning at around 5 am.

“We want to help charities that promote suicide awareness and do an amazing job supporting those bereaved by suicide, such as Papyrus, 2 Wish Upon A Star and Sandy Bear,” said Ana Rogers, who first organised such an event back in 2018 in memory of her husband Lee ‘Rocky’ Rogers who sadly died of depression by suicide, with an amazing £3,660 raised towards Mind Pembrokeshire and DPJ.

“The plan is to start at 10.30 pm from the dark in Slebech and into the light arriving in Saundersfoot, from the darkness of suicide ideation into the light of hope brought by helping friends,” she continued.

The walk will be around 13 miles (22 km) and will have a maximum number of 20 people taking part due to Covid restrictions.

“We are hoping to turn it into a yearly event organised by our peer support group, LiSS,” added Ana.
