Having completed, last autumn, the Daft Way Round Motorbike ride in South Africa with HRH Princes William and Harry, an undeterred Tenby man has taken on another crazy motorbike challenge - but this time to publicise Tenby Male Choir and a local children's charity.

Recently-appointed baritone, David Stewart-Walvin, of Warren Street, Tenby, appears to enjoy his singing as much as his motorbike exploits.

His latest Daft Way Round adventure involved a motorbiking holiday with several European-based friends riding through Switzerland, France, Germany and Belgium - ending up at a friend's apartment in Luxembourg on the last day.

Much to David's dismay, the end of the holiday coincided with an important charity fund-raising Tenby Male Choir concert in St. Mary's Church supporting Ty Hafan Children's Hospice - a charity theme close to David's heart.

Faced with a difficult decision, David arranged, as a publicity stunt, to ride non-stop his Honda FireBlade Sports Motorbike back from Luxembourg all the way to St. Mary's Church front door in time to sing in the final song the choir usually performed - a challenge that would see him ride the bike a complete journey covering 1,000km - pausing only for fuel and to take onboard copious amounts of mineral water to keep himself hydrated - an important tip he learnt from his experiences in South Africa.

Breakfast in Remich, Luxembourg, at 5.30 am, saw the start of the challenge - the first target being a ferry crossing at lunchtime from Calais back to Dover.

Once back in Blighty, the temperature had dropped from 31C in Europe to a much cooler level - and wetter - as the dreaded M25 London orbital motorway beckoned complete with stationary traffic.

"Now I know why they call it London's biggest car park!" said David. "But on a motorbike you can safely filter through the stationary traffic and before too long the signs for M4 South Wales could be seen."

Aiming to be back at St. Mary's for mid-evening was the target and without too much further fuss, David arrived back in Tenby in time to regain his composure - get some blood circulating back into his tired limbs in time to have a photo taken alongside his motorbike with Ian Williams, musical director of Tenby Male Choir.

After a welcome from David Blackmore, top tenor chorister and choir MC, the mad motorcyclist took his official place in the back row of the baritones to join in singing the choir's finale, American Trilogy.

Tenby Male Choir sings frequently throughout the year raising funds for numerous local charities and worthwhile causes - indeed Paul Varallo, another Tenby chorister, is raising funds to take part in next year's New York marathon supporting his chosen theme - research into Alzheimer's disease.
