Matthew Evans, of Lydstep, has just become the first person in Wales and only the 10th in the world to have ever run 10 consecutive marathons back to back. The 'Brathay Challenge' was launched last year as the longest back to back marathon race in the world, sanctioned by the Athletics Association and also Guinness as a World Record. Ten marathons back to back is pretty hard to comprehend, but then add one of the toughest courses in Europe into the mix and you can see why only the top athletes even try it. Said Matthew: "It was an incredible experience, painful, but incredible! To claim the first Welsh man to complete 10 marathons back to back was also very special for me as Ireland had their first runner in the mix this year as well, so we became a small Celtic team! But without doubt it was the hardest challenge, both physically and mentally, I have yet to do. "I would also like to thank everyone who travelled up from Wales, especially my wife who only has 10 days to go before the birth of our next child! It is almost a six-hour journey to Windermere, but as I came into Brathay for the last couple of hundred metres, it was the Welsh fans who created a 'Grand Slam' atmosphere to top 10 very hard days." Matthew also raised over £8,000 for Brathay charity, who help over 5,000 under-privileged children a year. He would like to thank Asics and all the people who supported him and sponsored him during this event.

Matthew Evans crosses the finishing line of the final marathon.
