With Manorbier Under 17s girls football team riding high at the top of the South Wales League, the little South Pembrokeshire club has three other reasons to celebrate.
Midfield duo Hannah Lewis and Angharad James have both represented the Wales Under 16s in the two recent games against Finland and a further two games against Scotland.
Captain Molly Furnival-Doran has been part of the Wales Under 17s squad which recently played twice against Belgium and then in the European Championships in Macedonia with games against Belarus, Macedonia and England.
Molly also managed to get on the score sheet in the 2-0 win against Macedonia. All three girls have been part of the same team for a number of years.
Coach Mike Lewis paid tribute to former coach Gerry Rigby: “It was Gerry who got the ball rolling, by alerting the WFA that it was worth looking at the Pembrokeshire girls. He pushed and pushed until they got the recognition they deserved and now we have three full internationals in the team and several more knocking on the door; amazing for a little club like Manorbier.”
The women’s team also has former internationals Stacey John and Carrie Slack in the side and who’s to say that they won’t be back on the Welsh scene in the near future.

Manorbier Under 17s V Garden Village

In what was probably the worst conditions to play a football match, Manorbier girls once again strolled to an emphatic 11-0 victory against Garden Village.
Manorbier girls love to play a passing game and keeping the ball on the floor was the only way to approach the game in such conditions.
New girl Ellen McDonagh showed her class with four great goals, while regular goal machine Mari Griffiths secured yet another hat-trick. Angharad James scored two, with Rachel Hughes and Hannah Lewis getting one apiece.
Beth Ellis, in the Garden Village goal, was probably man-of-the-match, which gives an indication of the dominance of the Manorbier side.
Sympathy has to go to Ffion Ashman, in the Manorbier goal, who hardly saw the ball, so could do nothing other than freeze!
