Ladies’ Captain’s Day a sunshine success
Friday, 03 July 2009

The whole group on the stairs with Mum, Vivienne Narracott, daughter, Katie and daughter-in-law Catherine Powell.
Every captain of a golf club hopes the weather will be good for ‘their’ day. Heather Morgan had obviously crossed all her fingers, and toes, and we were all delighted to enjoy a very warm day with not a cloud in the sky and only a slight breeze, which at least helped to keep the temperature at a reasonable level.
Any member who could play did so and, although most said they could have scored a few more birdies and pars, it was a very happy group of players and those of us who had idled away the day at home, who gathered for an excellent meal provided by Stephen and Hilary and their staff.
There was an extensive array of prizes provided by Heather, primarily from the professional’s shops, with the main prize kindly donated by Mervyn Tucker, lessons from Rhys Harry, and four extra prizes which were given to Heather in unusual circumstances. She was parking her car in her designated slot when a gentleman enquired if she had had her Captain’s Day and when told she had not, he provided four vouchers for the overall winner and the three group winners - he was a representative of Brittany Ferries visiting golf clubs on a promotional tour and the lucky winners each have vouchers for a Brittany Ferries golf break.
Heather’s special visitors were her mother, who we all know very well, her daughter-in-law, who we had not met, and Katie, her daughter, who we remember as a junior watching her game progress to a good level. Katie is now a much-respected member of the financial world and rarely has time for golf and had lost her handicap. Unbeknown to her mother, she joined a club in Berkshire, where she lives, regained a handicap in order to play on her mother’s Captain’s Day and we were delighted she had not forgotten how to score well on Tenby!

We all joined Katie in thanking her mother for an enjoyable and memorable day.
Apart from Captain’s Day, June has been a good month for two of our up-and-coming junior golfers. Quite recently, the Carmarthen and Pembrokeshire Ladies’ County Golf Association was formed and on June 6 the first County Junior Championship was held at Carmarthen.
Emma Guerreiro played one below her handicap and was the winner of the championship, while Georgia Thomas was second, having played to her handicap.
Beside these successes, we are very pleased both Emma and Georgia, together with Holly Watkins, have been chosen to play for the county team against Monmouthshire in July. Well done, girls.

Poll
Tenby Car Park charges have increased by 260% since their last review back in 1994. The new charges for a reserved space throughout the season equate to 95p a day, according to the Council. Do you think that this is reasonable or disgusting?
