Hounds, hounds and more hounds! A quieter spell for the club match numbers wise recently, but plenty of action reported nonetheless with records being broken!
Also, first of all a correction to the last report with the May Shore Fish of the Month award going to Steve Cook and a superb starry smooth hound of 4.57 kg which represents 98.3 per cent of the current record. The Cooks (father and son) continue to dominate shore catches with a string of specimen ‘hounds!
However, on to the reports.
June 5 - Amroth Night Owl and Denning Cup: A beautiful evening with a gentle westerly wind and the promise of some light showers later in the evening greeted the boys. Seven anglers gathered hoping for smooth hounds to supplement the usual LSD, but in the event, just the one fish was landed. Well done to the chairman for taking the Denning Cup. Result: 1. Karl Boyle - LSD (0.583 kg).
June 13 - dinghy match: Just ‘Lukris’ cast off for the latest dinghy match and in common with some of the shore chaps, Dave and Chrissie also found the smooth hounds in an obliging mood with a string of fine fish reported. The best was a cracking starry of 4.3 kg which set a new benchmark for the species from a boat. (see photo Dave Hodge). In addition, ‘Lukris’ found another five species on the day and Dave’s starry won him the Pendell Boat Cup to boot!
June 27 - Rover: Six anglers gathered for the latest roving match. A number of other regulars were busy with a dinghy match and that report will appear later. Father and son team of Steve and Ben Cook found the smooth hounds yet again and racked up six between them to romp away with the match. In addition to the smoothies, Steve also grabbed a black bream which has beaten the existing shore caught club record. Well done to Garf, Karl, Barry and Nev for at last trying to make a match of it! Results were (and no it’s not a misprint!): 1. Steve and Ben Cook 195 points; 2. Barry Taylor and Nev Andrews 15; 3. Garfield Thomas and Karl Boyle 5.
June’s shore fish of the month went to Steve Cook’s black bream at 155 per cent of the current record. Ben Cook set a new record for shore caught starry smoothie of 5.31 kg. (See photo of Ben Cook). Steve and Ben have also been awarded specimen certificates from the Bristol Channel Federation of Sea Anglers for their recent smooth hound catches. Well done!
Boat caught FotM went to Dave’s starry smoothie of 4.3 kg, representing 107.5 per cent of the existing club record.
Main championship standings are now as follows: 1. Barry Taylor 149 pts; 2. Garfield Thomas 128; 3. Karl Boyle 124; 4. Steve Cook 87.
Any queries, give Nev a shout on 814072.
